Since many of the people I know aren't members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I guess there are lots of things that could be explained.
About this blog thing
I will have one day a week that I can use for personal stuff, such as writing letters, emails, shopping, etc. In that time, I will send an email to my family. That email will be posted here. I will not have access to this blog while I am gone. It is not my fault if updates do not come as often as you like. Sorry. I know waiting is annoying.
Contact, Time, and Stuff
If you want to contact me, use the email or mailing address posted under "Contact Info". Pretty straightforward, I think.
I will be gone from August 20, 2014 to February 2016. In that time, I will be able to call my family only on Christmas and Mother's Day.
Why?
Why am I going on a mission? Good question. My best explanation is in my first post, about halfway through. Basically, I know that this is right for me. God knows that this is right for me. And yes, I am excited.
Why this blog? Another good question. Because when I got my mission call (the letter in the mail telling me where I was going to go), one of the first things I did after opening it was probably eat ice cream. But that is besides the point. After that, I looked online for blogs from missionaries currently or previously serving in Dallas, Texas. It was super exciting to read about the area, the people, everything. Also, my roommate made me create this, so I might as well use it.
This is...
More spiritual than you are used to me being? Probably. Hopefully. But this is who I am, whether or not you are familiar with that. These things are just easier for me to say in writing than in person.
Wait, this kid?
Yeah, me. The one with the possibly-but-not-probably forever-broken toe, who is half-Hispanic but doesn't know Spanish, isn't a particularly good driver, hates small talk, takes meaningless things too seriously, and feels more comfortable writing than speaking. This kid.
But I try not to worry much. After all, God has a habit of calling unexpected people to do His work. People who think they are bad at speaking or too young or have no importance in society. God makes weak things become strong. So I just go with it. You should too. God has a purpose for you too.
How does this relate to school?
It doesn't. It is unrelated to school credit, requirements, scholarships, or anything. My enrollment is deferred until about April 2016.
How is this funded?
By myself. And by that, I mean mostly my family. (Love you guys!)
Dallas, Texas??
Yes. Lots of mission trips in other churches are strictly humanitarian, so they are generally in third world countries and such. The focus of mine is preaching. Everyone deserves to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. So Dallas, Texas it is. It isn't where I would have chosen, but it is beginning to feel right.
