Well, this week we didn't end up teaching a lot of lessons. On Wednesday, we left for a meeting at 8:00 AM, drove for two hours, and got there late. We didn't end up getting back to our area until 8:00 PM. It was kind of a long day. At least we had quality time with the English Sisters who gave us a ride.
On Tuesday, we finally had people attend our English class. We had fun. I love teaching English classes. It reminds me of Plano, my first area. I think I enjoyed it a lot back then because Spanish was still a struggle, so it was nice to feel that I knew what I was doing.
We remembered to feed the cat every day last week, which was an accomplishment.
Sometimes we have frustrating lessons when people say, "I just know that God sent you girls here to help me get back on my feet and go back to my old church!" And we are like, "Actually, we are pretty sure that God has something even better in store for you, if you are willing to just try it out..." We have had too many of those lessons. Why didn't God send you someone from your own church to bring you back, if that's where He wants you? I feel like no one gets anywhere in those lessons.
We were having a lesson with one of our recent converts, and he gave us each a small bottle of cranberry juice. But actually, it is "Liquid Concentrate". I think most bottle of cranberry juice contain about 4% juice or something. This contains 27%, and is actually meant to be mixed with at least 3 water bottles. He told us it was really good, and we didn't want to offend him, so we drank some right there on the spot. That is some powerful stuff. I can't even imagine how sour it would be without being around 50% sugar.
We taught a Primary class again on Sunday. The lesson of the day was "Jesus loves everyone", so we put up a big map and talked about lots of different places and people. It was fun. Mostly, the kids loved pointing to places and asking what they were called. Hopefully their real teacher will be back soon so they can have Sunday School lessons instead of a geography class (because we get distracted along with the students).
On Thursday night we went on a trip to the temple because a lady that I taught in my last ward invited us to go with her, since it was her first time. We met up with a bunch of other Hermanas, and it was pretty great. Although, I think my companions favorite part was that we ate dinner at Whole Foods. Luckily we only had an hour for dinner, otherwise we would have stayed there all night.
We heard this scripture in our long meeting, and I really liked it.
“And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you” (Joshua 3:5).
I can't exactly remember what it related to, but I liked it. Basically, blessings and miracles and signs and wonders are going to come. The problem is that these things on their own do not create faith. People saw Christ perform miracles and still rejected him. I think that the process of sanctifying (cleaning, purifying, making holy) is for our own benefit, so that we are prepared to fully enjoy the blessings that the Lord is ready to give us.
Well, it has been a good year. See you in 6 months! Have a good week!
Love,
Hermana Pace
